With around 50% of people complaining of sleep related problems it seems getting a good nights rest is harder than it sounds. Reading the net theirs a huge amount of information regarding sleep and how best to achieve an optimal nights sleep. Our two little ducks have been sifting through all this information in a bid to separate the truth from the sleep myths.
Below we’ve listed the top 5 sleep myths, avoid falling for these and you could be in for a quacking nights sleep!
1. We need 8 hours sleep a night.
Ask somebody how many hours sleep they believe a person should aim for every night and most people will reply with 8. The truth is the amount of sleep each of us requires is completely different, 8 is an average. The actual figure will vary from anywhere between 7 & 9 hours.
2. You can catch up on sleep at the weekend.
Many people believe that if they skip a few hours sleep during the week they can make up for it by sleeping longer or lying in on a weekend. The truth is that the body needs consistency, the body works best when you wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day. Simply sleeping longer at the weekends will have a negative effect on your sleeping patterns for the start of the coming week. Over sleeping during the weekend will throw out your body’s natural body clock and make it more difficult for you to fall in to deep sleep.
